Don’t Dismiss the Very Thing That Can Help You

Happy Fit Friday family!

What have you done today to optimize your health?

I want to share something from my heart because this one hit home for me. Sometimes we can be so busy avoiding what we think is going to be hard, uncomfortable, or “too much,” that we miss the very thing God may have placed in front of us to help us get better.

And yes, I’m talking about myself.

For years, I avoided working out with my daughter-in-love. Now let me tell you, she knows her stuff when it comes to health, wellness, and fitness. She is committed to helping people. She understands the body. She understands movement. She understands the process. She is gifted in what she does.

But I had already made up my mind.

I thought, “Oh no, she’s going to have me doing all this hard stuff. She’s going to push me too much. She’s going to make me do things I’m not ready to do.”

And let me be honest. I can be a little whiny when it comes to working out really, really hard. So in my mind, I just decided it would not be a good fit.

Well, I was wrong.

Extremely wrong.

When I say I was wrong, I was wrong.

My first workout session marked a big milestone for me because I finally allowed her to work with me. And what I discovered was that she was not trying to push me beyond where I was. She was paying attention to where I am physically. She was assessing what I needed. She was watching my movement, my stability, my strength, and my limitations.

She understood that because of some of the health challenges I have been dealing with, I could not just jump in and do everything at once. I am still rebuilding. I am still regaining strength. I am still working on mobility and stability. I am still not completely out of the woods, but I thank God I am not where I was.

And she met me right there.

That blessed me.

Sometimes we avoid help because we assume we already know how it is going to go. We assume it will be too hard. We assume the person will not understand. We assume we cannot handle it. We assume it is not for us.

But assumptions can keep us stuck.

Misconceptions can keep us from healing.

Fear can keep us from strengthening.

Avoidance can keep us from moving forward.

So today, I want to encourage you not to dismiss or take for granted the very thing that can help you get back on track.

For the purpose of this #HappyFitFriday platform, I am talking about your health, wellness, and fitness journey. But honestly, this can apply to every area of your life.

Maybe there is someone who can help you get stronger, but you keep avoiding them.

Maybe there is a class, a trainer, a walking group, a wellness program, or a new routine that could help you, but you keep talking yourself out of it.

Maybe you know you need to move more, stretch more, eat better, rest better, or become more consistent, but you are avoiding the work because it feels uncomfortable.

I understand.

But here is the truth: we only get stronger when we are willing to put in the work.

We only gain momentum when we are willing to start.

We only rebuild when we stop making excuses and begin taking intentional steps.

In my case, I need to get my numbers where they are supposed to be. I need to regain strength. I need my stability back because, yes, I have been a little wobbly. And my daughter-in-love is helping me get that back on track so I can go to the next level.

Was it as bad as I thought it would be?

No, it was not.

Will she eventually work me?

Yes, I already know she will.

But I have to be willing to do it.

And that is the message.

When there is something you truly want, whether it is better health, more strength, improved mobility, better numbers, or just feeling better in your body, you have to be committed to the process.

You do not have to do everything at once.

You do not have to be perfect.

You do not have to compare your pace to anyone else’s pace.

But you do have to start.

You have to be willing.

You have to stop allowing fear, assumptions, or past experiences to talk you out of what may actually be good for you.

So let this be your reminder: do not allow your misconceptions to cause you to miss out on the very thing that could help you get where you need to be.

Consider what is best for you.

Consider what support you may need.

Consider what you have been avoiding.

And then ask yourself, “Is this something that could help me become stronger, healthier, and more stable?”

If the answer is yes, it may be time to stop running from it and start walking toward it.

One step at a time.

One workout at a time.

One healthier decision at a time.

One commitment at a time.

Family, we are committing.

Be blessed, and keep moving toward better.
